Tata Docomo Vs AirTel : Docomo is a Clear Winner?
I’ve been using AirTel as my primary mobile operator for about 3 years now and I hardly regretted in using it until I started to use Tata Docomo for quite a while recently. First of all, I’m very happy with Docomo’s services with its cheaper tariff plans, faster internet speeds and good customer care support. Therefore I’m writing this post with the differences I’ve experienced between AirTel and Docomo.
Docomo rocks because of,
Faster Internet Speeds:
I’m a fast-paced tech fan and I want my phone to keep up with me while browsing and streaming videos on the go. I used to subscribe to AirTel’s 3G services every month which soon made me realize that it is too expensive for any average mobile consumer to subscribe to it. I have a 2G samsung phone in which I have been using Tata Docomo and I should say that it is really fast!! Although Docomo doesn’t have its 3G service in Tamilnadu, its EDGE and GPRS speeds are blazing fast and comparable enough to beat AirTel’s 3G.
Better SMS Packs:
I’ve been using AirTel’s SMS plans priced at Rs. 60 which doesn’t give me more than 100SMS/day (Local & National) for 30 days (at the time of this writing, 200SMS/day had been the maximum as per TRAI’s regulations) but in Docomo, its Rs.38 for 200SMS/day (Local & National) for 45 Days. Being a heavy texter, I really would like to jump onto Docomo now.
Better Customer Service:
I’m not a fan of using Customer Service over the phone and for me everything should be made online so that I can waste no time in waiting to talk to a CustomerCare Representative. As far as I know, my friends who had been using AirTel like me faced a lot of issues regarding customer care. Some of them have not been addressed still by the representatives even after 3-5 complaints. As far as Docomo is concerned, my friends seem to have a good contact with it over its customer care service.
It’s website is frequently updated with its new features and tariff plans, whereas AirTel’s website is still in the days of 7000SMS/day as mentioned in its SMS Tariff plans section.
Faster Online Recharge:
I waste no time in going to nearest store to recharge my prepaid mobile account and therefore I use Online services frequently. Docomo’s Online Recharge site is direct, simple and elegant and it uses Net Banking, it is more secure and reliable when compared to other operators. One of the greatest benefits is that it gives FULL talk time for the money you pay and therefore there is no service charges. Whereas, AirTel’s online recharge uses Credit/Debit Cards and has no talk time benefits. I have to rely on third party services in order to use Netbanking for recharging my AirTel Account.
I’m still sticking with AirTel because of,
Airtel being a major player in Mobile service for a very long time, it has better coverage over Docomo. At many places, I find there is no mobile coverage for my Docomo which I’m very uncomfortable with, even though it has a lot of features.
Better Social Network Support:
AirTel has always been a trend setter with its release of Fonetwish service for free Facebook access, Twitter support and other social services which are hard to find on all other mobile operators.
3G!! What could life be without it?
For me, Internet is meant to be fast. I would rather die in boredom than waiting for pages to load on my smartphone when I’m on the go. AirTel’s 3G services are definitely expensive, but I have no other choice. I wish Docomo might have won the 3G Auction in Tamilnadu.
No Ads, Please!!
Some of the things I really hate in life is Ads on my mobile. AirTel gives me quite a lot of texts regarding its latest offers which I hardly read than deleting it, but Docomo is worse than that. Docomo gives a hell lot of ads, Stupid Push messages and annoying Caller Tune calls. Even after activating the Do Not Disturb (DND), I find no difference in Docomo’s ad trauma.
Being a Die-Hard Apple Fan, I wish to own an iPhone soon. Being an AirTel user, its easier to switch to an iPhone using the same number because AirTel and Aircel are the only iPhone Providers in India for now.
